BIO-LIP CARE: Engineering an Anti-bacterial Hydrating and Healing lip oil using Jamaica and Pomegranate extracts

This project focused on engineering a natural bio-lip oil using Jamaica (hibiscus) and pomegranate extracts to create a product that provides hydration, healing, coloration, and antimicrobial protection. The lip oil was formulated by infusing natural plant extracts into nourishing oils such as coconut, jojoba, and pomegranate seed oil, and its effectiveness was evaluated through antimicrobial testing, color analysis, and consistency measurements. Results showed that the bio-lip oil produced a stable reddish tint with strong color consistency across trials and was suitable for different skin tones. Antimicrobial testing against Staphylococcus epidermidis demonstrated that the bio-lip oil had similar antimicrobial effectiveness to a commercial lip oil, with no statistically significant difference. Overall, the findings indicate that the bio-lip oil is a promising natural alternative to commercial lip products, offering moisturizing, antimicrobial, and cosmetic benefits while using eco-friendly and plant-based ingredients.
