The main idea of my project is to monitor the spread of disease at the science fair by making a simulation and showing the judges, presenters (classmates), and observers (visiting students from the lower grade) and detecting which one of them would get me sick. I originally thought that the other presenters would have the highest chance of getting me sick. It turns out that the observers got me sick the most times and my hypothesis was wrong. In addition I found that sitting in the middle of the classroom increased the chance that I got sick.

  1. What a fantastic project, I especially like that you looked up the current infection rates and details on all three diseases. Thank you for sharing your science!

  2. This is a very impressive project. I really liked how you used computer programming to simulate how diseases spread in a real-life environment like a science fair. Running the simulation 500 times and using infection data from real sources such as the CDC shows strong scientific thinking. Your results about observers and seating location affecting infection risk were especially interesting. Excellent work combining programming, science, and public health!
