Animal Crossings

I have always been interested in snakes, but seeing them squished on the side of the road would really upset me. I made a map that shows the best places for animal crossings in the study area. I hope the results will help save animals and peoples lives in my community.

  1. Andrew, this is an exceptional project! Your question, finding the best locations for wildlife crossings in Tucson? Addresses a real community and environmental need. You didn’t just wonder; you built a solution.

What stands out most is your creativity and technical skill. Combining iNaturalist data with mapping tools and AI to create predictive animal density maps is impressive for any age. The fact that you identified duplicate observation issues and found a way to “even out” your data shows real scientific thinking.

Your final maps clearly point to I-10 and Skyline Drive as priority areas. You thought about limitations, considered next steps, and are already planning to share findings with the Arizona Department of Transportation. That is courageous.

This is a project with impact. You should be incredibly proud. Excellent work!

  2. Hello.
I love your project and how you incorporated the snake’s movement using diagrams.
    You did a great job.
