A study of Meteorites and their Impact on the Moon

Physics and Astronomy

Grade:

Elaine MacKenzie

Meteoroid impacts on the moon surface show that a meteoroid's speed, direction, density, and mass creates the crater size and depth, helping scientist understand crater formation. I chose this topic because I always loved space and its many processes, so the act of meteoroidal impact is right up my ally. The overall result is that size is the greatest distinguishing factor in crater size and shape. My project is important because in the long history of the earth and the moon, we have experienced many impacts and understanding how and why they form can help, explore the impacts of the moon and the earth from today to the distant past.

  1. This is a very cool project idea! Your slides are well-designed and easy to read and understand. Your line plots clearly convey the relationships between the asteroid parameters and the crater parameters. I think your study has a lot of potential for future work, and I hope you continue to pursue it!
