The Paleontologist Study

Animal Science

McKenzie DeCoite

The children in our class spent a month learning about Paleontology and dinosaurs. They started by brainstorming what they already knew about dinosaurs, then asked questions about what they wanted to learn. They drew dinosaurs, plotted where dinosaurs lived and created fossil replicas. They hypothesized their own ideas and discussed how the dinosaurs went extinct. They measured 9 different dinosaurs to find out how many “kids long” they were (graphing the results). Together they created a collage dinosaur out of cardboard and recycled materials. They summarized their learning by sharing dinosaur and paleontologist facts in a collaborative book!

  1. Wow! What a great project! I love dinosaurs too and I recently was introduced to micro-paleontology – studying fossils that are so small you need a microscope to see them. They are so beautiful though. I really love how you measured how long dinosaurs were using kid units! Keep exploring the world using all of your brilliant minds to make observations.
