Sweet Carrot Tries (bah-bah-bah)

Food and Nutrition

Grade:
3
Teacher:
Ann McNew

This after-school Science Club group project started off as a snack! The Fair Director brought multi-colored carrots for a snack, which intrigued the students, as they had never seen them before. The students decided they would like to try them & did a series of investigations to determine if the different colors of carrots also had differing levels of sweetness. They researched how carrots came to be available in different colors; conducted taste tests with and without blindfolds; taste tests cooked vs. raw. After all the tasting was done and recorded, they performed a Benedict's Test on the carrots to see if there would be differences in the amount of sugars in the different colored carrots.
