Kindergarten and the RadishStalks

Plants and the Environment

Natalie Nixon

This is a Kindergarten class project. Our students were so curious to discover just what is required for a seed to sprout into a plant. We observed radish seeds in both light and dark conditions to see if they would sprout. We had 4 conditions for the seeds in both light and dark: just seeds in a cup; just seeds and water in a cup; just seeds and soil in a cup and seeds, water and soil in a cup. We were SO surprised to see that the seeds in just the water sprouted, in addition to the seeds + soil+ water- AND that these 2 seed sets also sprouted in the darkness!
