The purpose to stop and prevent is to reduce illness, disability, and death related to tobacco use and secondhand smoke. More than 16 million adults in the United States have a disease caused by smoking cigarettes, and smoking-related illnesses lead to half a million deaths each year.

  1. Lung capacity is critical for both athletes and non-athletes, and accurate measures of such capacity are important for diagnosing and treating different conditions. The experimental design could have included more detail as to exactly how the applied force and acceleration were quantitated.
