My science fair project is all about finding an eco-friendly replacement for cement in concrete. In my project, I replaced different amounts of cement with ash in concrete. This project is important because cement production is one of the leading causes of the CO2 emissions into our atmosphere. By replacing cement with a sustainable material, we can help to lower the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere. I chose this project because I’m really passionate about helping our environment and saving the animals and plants affected by climate change. When I tested to see if the ash-based concrete was as strong as cement-based concrete, I found that when replacing 25% of the cement with ash in the mixture, that concrete is almost as strong as a concrete with 100% cement. This project is important because if we replaced 25% of cement with an eco-friendly material, we could stop around 1.05 trillion metric tons of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere.

  1. Great experiment! It would be great to see how the 25% ash concrete holds up under other stress tests and what other materials you could use in place of cement.
