My project examines heat retention of different ground covers. (2) I chose this project to find out if it is possible to decrease the heat island effect around a house by changing the ground cover. (3) I found that more natural types of ground covers, like dirt, are less heat-retaining than man made ground covers, such as asphalt. (4) It is important to find ways to combat climate change and heat island effects. If many people make small changes, like choosing a less heat-retaining ground cover around their homes, it could make a big difference for the environment.
