"I tested how well different fabrics blocked the particles from our breath. I had 3 variables to test, a cloth mask, a surgical mask and a mask made from many fabrics. For my trials, I put on each mask, making sure it covered my nose and mouth because that's how the CDC recommends masks to be worn. After I put one of the masks on I blew at the candle to test how well it worked at blocking my blow. The candle was there so I could see what happened to my breath, if the mask wasn't very reliable the candle would go out. I stayed the same distance away and tried to blow at it the same time for every trial."
