The Leader of the Pack: an observational study of captive African Wild DogsAnimal Sciences
- Pamela Tinley
"My project is a study of African Wild Dogs in captivity. I wanted to learn who was the alpha since the wild dog pack at my zoo is all female. I watched their behavior 12 times, at three different times of day. I used an ethogram to write down their behaviors. Then I put the behaviors observed into categories: social, solitary, aggressive, submissive, and off exhibit. I learned that one dog had the most aggressive behavior, but most of the dogs’ behaviors were social. Also, I learned their behaviors changed during the day, the dogs were more aggressive in the afternoon. "
