I am conducting a science experiment on the effectiveness of homemade solutions that will be used as fire retardants. I wanted to conduct an experiment on fire safety, because of the hotter/drier conditions that are affecting much of the U.S. due to global warming. All the solutions helped increase the time it took a 2x4 to burn by at least 2+ minutes, with the wood with the baking soda solution lasting close to 13 minutes longer than the control. If people ever want to feel more secure, they can apply one of these homemade solutions to a piece of wood to keep it from burning as quickly
