Ice, Ice, BabyChemical and Material Sciences
- Mrs. Theresa Stone
"Given four different room-temperature liquids, (water, soda, orange juice, and apple cider vinegar) the class wondered which would make ice melt fastest? We looked at the ingredients of each liquid and had a discussion before forming our hypothesis. Because ice is frozen water, most of the class thought the ice would melt the quickest in water. However, we didn't get our hypothesis; the ice in apple cider vinegar melted the fastest. We think this is because of the acetic acid in vinegar. The class thought that this information could be useful in winter months, when there is ice and frost on car windows. Perhaps a solution of apple cider vinegar could be sprayed to help loosen the ice? "
